'Een dubbel gevoel bij het begin van 2024', schrijft de Belg op Instagram. 'Mijn laatste twee maanden als professioneel veldrijder komen eraan. Ik ben blij met mijn beslissing om het professioneel koersen vaarwel te zeggen. Ik ben heel dankbaar voor alle kansen die ik heb gekregen! Alle mooie mensen die ik over de hele wereld ben tegengekomen! En het is zeker geen vaarwel aan deze prachtige sport! Laten we genieten van deze laatste wedstrijden.' Heel wat toppers in het veld staken Baestaens een hart onder de riem. 'Trots op jou!', schreef zijn vriendin Annemarie Worst onder de Instagram-post. 'Topper!', kwam er uit het kamp Eli Iserbyt.
Baestaens keek na een Europese titel bij de junioren in 2066 een een Belgische titel bij de beloften in 2009 tegen een beloftevolle en succesvolle carrière aan, maar na zijn debuut bij de profs in 2011 bleven uitschieters en zeges uit. Hij won wel nog drie keer het BK bij de elite zonder contract. Dit seizoen reed de renner van Sputs CX Team twee keer top tien: een keer zevende in de Exact Cross in Essen en een keer negende in de X2O Trofee in Kortrijk.
